Winter is finally over, and the golf season begins.... and to start it
off Stadia re-launched our "Ladies Only Golf Day"! After an 8 year
absence, we had our Ladies Golf Day at St. Andrew's Valley in Aurora on
May 28, 2008.
80 incredible women, great weather, a little instruction from the pro's
and 9 holes of golf on an "A" class course. As you can see from the
pictures, it was a SEA OF PINK, my favourite colour!!!
So, you're asking, "Why a Ladies Day???" I will explain.....
I have seen such a huge change in property management over the last 20
years, once an alliance of the "Old Boys Club" it has now become the
"Ladies Only Club"!!!
Let's be honest MEN!!! Women make terrific property managers and in
some cases better property managers. (and better golfers too!!)
Why?? They ask lots of questions. (Never a stupid question only a
stupid answer) They have a keen eye for design, colour and
architecture. And most of all, women have a sense of "fair play" as
demonstrated on the golf course. They don't cheat, it’s ok if they
don't hit the longest shot, and they complement each other on style and
effort. Women actually care about each others feelings, men barely
have emotion, never mind a pulse (as a man I can say all these
things). Ok, they have emotion but have difficulty showing it.
Men see golf with suppliers as an entitlement, women see it as an
honour or a sign of respect. It has been said that golf brings out the
best and worst in people. The game allows you to know your playing
partner’s personalities and they will learn equally as much about you.
This is why so many business leaders play golf with important clients,
suppliers and potential hires. Many of the rules of golf apply to the
business world and being successful at any endeavour – being prepared,
paying attention, assessing situations quickly and maintaining ones
composure. Situations created on the golf course reveal how you respond
to success or failure, performance under pressure, and how well you
abide by the rules and ethics of the game. olf is an awesome test of
character, the quest for continuous improvement, moments of great
exultation, and sometimes huge disappointment. For the 80 distinct
women that showed up to golf, the characteristics you exhibit on the
course and in the business world are extraordinary... To all of you I
say, stand up and shout, “I'm proud to be a woman in property
management!"
Just for the record I had nothing to do with the Ladies Day Event.....
My team did it all!!!
They worked a ton of extra hours to make it happen.... They really
wanted to make it a success, different then any other standard golf
day. If you can't be different then what's the point of doing it?
True VALUE ADDED in life is the experience you get.
It’s so difficult to define VALUE ADDED........quantify the un-quantifiable.
Value added is a personal experience.
Value added is doing a task with sincerity and concern for all involved.
Value added is not forgetting the little details.
Value added is making a true effort.
There is an old rule of thumb; give a job to the busiest person in the
office because they’re the one who is going to get it done.
Stadia/Byrne Corporation really showed its true capabilities when they
executed this Ladies Golf Day. It was unique, original, and sincere,
with so much attention to detail.....
I'm really proud.......
I hope that our customers who came to the event could see the value and
effort put in, but......the real proof in the pudding is the
relationship we build with our customer and the sustainability of our
organization's success.......
See you all next year.....
And no, before you ask again I won't be the entertainment! lol
