So the summer of 2008 is over, we had the Olympics, we had lots of
weird weather in Canada and the economy is on everyone’s mind. We are
very lucky in Canada, we have the lowest debt of the G10 countries, we
have health care and we have lots of natural resources ... Water, oil,
wood and don't forget POT ashes.....
As our neighours to the south come up to an election oil will go down, so will our dollar.... But at least gas won't go up.....
I think it’s after the election that there will be "tough times"
Whether its john McCain or Barack Obama. They will have to cut.... Change and move monies around to keep the US economy a float.
And that will affect us...
We, the laid back Canadian, have a great opportunity to be creative......reinvent the wheel to ensure we can survive....
(Honestly our economy was better when our dollar was south of 80 cents... It made our exports cheap .....)
Anyway.....
I think the next ramp up to the "boom" in 2011-12 and beyond will be a
green based economy, reducing carbon foot print....... Slow down the
destruction of the planet, it will not only be good for the earth but
good for our souls....
But it does mean business will have to operate with more integrity and
less profit... Less of everything, stop consuming and start reusing...
Stop looking at the bottom line start looking at the planet....... Have
faith, believe that you are doing the right thing ( don't worry about
personal success) have integrity, and you will have success...
My father, like my brother Mike, often said, do a good job, work hard
and don't worry about the money, stay the course, care and, without you
even knowing, you will have success...( Sounds easy?) Head down ......
Blinders up and do what’s right.... Is that destiny or stupidity....
(Only you can answer)
Stadia last year spent a fortune building a green principle which we
aspire to live by, not for profit, but.....for our planet. For our kids
we felt that as our customers were looking for opportunities to go
"green" this good intention became a way to download the risk of the
environment to the supply chain..... For the building owner.
If your supply change is not operating with green integrity then your buildings really are not....( Think about that)
Thus we gave birth to our "Green Principle" document.
Funny thing is.... none of our customers really cared, BOMA dismissed
it , and no one really was interested..... Other then us. (Unvalidated
Integrity) This green principle document was written on integrity......
True integrity is not for measurement, nobody recognizes it, nobody
ever says thanks for recycling, integrity is only for you and you
alone.... Never validated.
Nobody will ever pay you to save the planet......we are going to save it because it’s the right thing to do.....
Next time you go to tender don't just look at the price (honestly any
supplier can match any price you need, given the opportunity) Look at
the company’s integrity.... Hard to quantify easy to dismiss......it’s
a challenge.
Apple, apples oranges.......
On the lighter side of life, school staring and my oldest boy is going
to university..... WOW, I never saw that coming... He's a really smart
young man but stubborn, ( funny, father like son)
This blog is meant to reflect what I think, see, care about...not very
many owners would have the guts to put in writing for the world to
read..... Even if the only readers are my family....
See ya soon............
