Happy New Year....2010...Wow...
My lovely 16 year old daughter this year gave me a gift....
A similar gift to one I gave her last year, it's a book, called "The Pocket Book for Dangerous Boys". I gave her the "girl version"....
When I bought the girl version as a gift, which is a 388 page hard back book, I never really looked at it, it looked fun and cute, but no real content.....

Facilities Maintenance in the Great North
Geographically, Canada is twice the size and one tenth the the population of the U.S. this poses a huge challenge: Ninety percent of our population lives within a one hundred and fifty kilometer (about 100 miles) radius of the United States border, which really limits accessibility to the rest of Canada. It also means that the Canadian economy is tightly linked to the U.S. economy.

It's not often I read something in a newspaper that makes me go hmmmmmmmmm.
The following is an excerpt from an on-line business magazine. The author is Jim Ziegler, a business columnist from DC.
I was inspired, I laughed....And I opened my eyes.....life is too short not to engage in life itself. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again waiting for something to change......

Over the years I've realized that Mary K, from Mary K Cosmetics, actually got it right.
Hire good people with a great attitude and you can teach them anything.
Stadia/Byrne Partners Group is primarily in the hospitality business, servicing our customers with enthusiasm and a desire to make it happen. Now, not later...
The philosophy is quite simple. Give customer care the same way you want it...... Being a critic about the way you're being treated when you’re not treating people the way you want to be treated... Is an oxymoron, stupid......

As I sit at my booth in Phoenix, Arizona, at the 2009 PRSM show, Janice Wynne, a representative for our company, hands me a card in a whimsical way and announces "this nice lady is the one you submit articles to for the retail PRSM mag," she continues "since you write that huge blog each month, perhaps you should share your CANADIAN Eh! perspective with the retailers in the USA."
As she hands me the card, I reach into the left pocket of my pants, grab my Blackberry and begin to type this new contact.....K-A-R-E-N....You get the point.........

My brother Mike asked me at lunch "What's your definition of loyalty?" This was semi-rhetorical..... I think? As he was challenging my latest blog (see last entry below) and it's truths or lies.....as I don't think he was fond of what I wrote (at least that's my guess)....

Recession, Recession, Recession.... I called it 8 months ago........
I believe the worst is yet to come, all of 2009, and into the first
quarter of 2010. A duration of 18 months at least. By fall 2010 it
might stabilize a little, but we really won't see or feel an
improvement until 2012.......
Why 2012 you ask? It will be the last year of the US President's first
term..... He’ll buy his votes ...... spend money......and so on...

I want to share with you an email I sent to a customer this past month. I have removed the names to protect the innocent. Ha ha ha...
Sharing this email with everyone
gives me the opportunity to share my humble commitment to change. I
believe all organizations change and evolve, and sometimes we have to
take one step back to take two steps forward......

So the summer of 2008 is over, we had the Olympics, we had lots of
weird weather in Canada and the economy is on everyone’s mind. We are
very lucky in Canada, we have the lowest debt of the G10 countries, we
have health care and we have lots of natural resources ... Water, oil,
wood and don't forget POT ashes.....

Winter is finally over, and the golf season begins.... and to start it
off Stadia re-launched our "Ladies Only Golf Day"! After an 8 year
absence, we had our Ladies Golf Day at St. Andrew's Valley in Aurora on
May 28, 2008.
80 incredible women, great weather, a little instruction from the pro's
and 9 holes of golf on an "A" class course. As you can see from the
pictures, it was a SEA OF PINK, my favourite colour!!!
So, you're asking, "Why a Ladies Day???" I will explain.....

I want to talk about corporate character and philosophy.
Recently I've partnered up with a great facility management company
called A.Anthony Corporation out of the States and throughout my
interview with Tony, the owner, his primary concern was our
relationship as people first - that we had synergy on a personal level
and shared the same philosophy. His concerns were so sincere it made me
reflect on my corporate culture and what my business philosophy really
is. So I thought that I would take a moment and share with you parts of
the conversation that took place between Tony and I.

This last month I have heard some great speakers, some very
motivational speakers - The empowering Pinball Clemons with his
spiritual messages and inspirational and encouraging stories and
another gentleman Ari Schonbrun who told us a compelling first hand
account of survival. He worked in the World Trade Towers and survived
the devastation of 9/11.....Life changing speeches.... Truly hits
home.........

Hey Folks,
So let's use the "big word" ... RECESSION... 2008/09. We finally get
some commercial development in downtown Toronto and "BOOM!!" goes the "
BOOM". It's like we're jinxed! I think out of all the G-8 countries,
Canada can weather this storm. Mind you, as far as service companies go
- over these next 2 years - this will separate the boys from the men,
so to speak. Everybody will be testing the waters to see who is out
there and how much they can save, even if they don't have to. It's a
real opportunity to shake up the system.

Writing has always been a chore for me yet as I hit 40 years old there is a interest in documenting my thoughts.
Whether one person or 100 read my efforts.... It does not matter.
The truer challenge is for me to read my thoughts. Hoping that those
words will still bring goose bumps of passion that breath life into my
continued idealisms....
